DESCRIPTION:

Los padres aprenderán destrezas de abogacía que puedan utilizar tanto en las escuelas como en los sistemas de atención o servicio.  Aprenderán lo importante que es conocer sobre la discapacidad de su hijo(a) para saber cuáles son los servicios apropiados que necesita; conocerán sus derechos y responsabilidades y aprenderán cómo solucionar un desacuerdo o conflicto que tengan con la escuela referente a la educación especial de su hijo(a).

PRESENTER:

Martha Lechuga has worked with WI-FACETS since October, 2008. She is the Statewide Multicultural Specialist/Latino and Milwaukee Child Find Project Multicultural Specialist/Latino. Martha has been a Parent Mentor and Parent Volunteer, assisting Spanish-speaking families of children with autism since 2002. 2008 to present, She is the coordinator of the "Latino Autism Support Group". Martha came from Mexico 16 years ago and she lives with her husband and two children, Alfonso Jr. and Mariell who has autism.
