Determining Eligibility for Specific Learning Disabilities

This workshop will review Wisconsin’s rule to determine whether a child is eligible under the category of Specific Learning Disability (SLD). An update about the current ‘status’ of SLD rule implementation will be offered. Opportunities to ask questions will be provided.


Deb Adrian Heiss is the Consultant for Specific Learning Disabilities at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI). She has been actively involved in the field of learning disabilities her entire professional career. Initially, Deb was a teacher of students. Then Deb was a university faculty member and helped to prepare future special educators. These experiences provide a foundation for Deb’s work at DPI.
