Everyone benefits, especially students, when communication, trust, and understanding are present between schools and families. In this workshop we will discuss the importance of family engagement in education, the school/educator’s role in family engagement, and best practices of family engagement to strengthen school-family partnerships.


Mildred Starks completed her Masters of Education in Curriculum & Instruction in Early Childhood Education from Concordia University and is currently pursuing her doctorate in Early Childhood Leadership & Advocacy. Her professional history includes both being an early childhood educator and managing early childhood programs. She has a special interest in social-emotional learning, particularly in the area of literacy. She has also trained extensively on a variety of early childhood, literacy, and professional development related topics.
