This update on special education and pupil discrimination law will provide attendees with an overview of recent legal developments pertaining to public school students in Wisconsin. The presentation will cover both statutory and regulatory changes as well as trends and patterns in WDPI compliant decisions.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will become familiar with recent changes to state and federal special education law.
  • Attendees will become familiar with recent changes to state and federal pupil nondiscrimination law.
  • Attendees will understand the available dispute resolution options related to special education and pupil nondiscrimination law.

Presenter:

Paul Sherman has been a school administration consultant on the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's Special Education Team since 2007. At the department his work includes complaint investigation, procedural compliance monitoring, and providing technical assistance to parents and public schools. He holds undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
