This workshop focuses on the need and benefit of peer support and how to effectively support others along your healthcare journey. The workshop discusses the effects of trauma, stress and grief and how to walk along someone who is experiencing these feelings. Listeners will learn basic ways of listening in a supportive way to help others.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explaining the benefits of peer support
  • Understanding chronic stress, chronic sorrow and the grief process
  • Defining the skills of active listening

Presenter:

Lori Albers is a mom to two children with a variety of medical and mental health challenges, Her role supports Parent to Parent of Wisconsin and the Regional Centers for Children and Youth with Special Healthcare Needs. She is a graduate of the BPDD's Partners in Policymaking Program, an advocate with Children's Advocacy Network and the Survival Coalition with Family Voices. Lori has presented to Wisconsin's Congenital Heart Symposium and was featured on the On-Air Advocate.
