Raising Awareness of Mental Health Needs in Schools

This workshop will provide a general overview of mental illness and how it may present within the school setting for children and youth. It will also include strategies for working with children and youth with mental health needs, as well as current programming that is being utilized in some schools to address students' mental health needs. It will conclude with time for questions.


Anna Moffit is the Executive Director of the Dane County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans impacted by mental illness. Anna has previously worked as an elementary school teacher, as a member of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) Board of Education and as a parent advocate with Wisconsin Family Ties. As Executive Director of NAMI Dane County. Anna's goal is to build on the strong tradition of advocacy and support for people affected by mental illness, including families whose children experience chronic and severe mental illnesses.
