Special Education Discipline Requirements
This presentation will cover the special education disciplinary requirements under the Individuals with Disability Education Act. Topics will include manifestation determinations, what is considered a disciplinary removal, what is a disciplinary change of placement, and under what circumstances may a student be removed to an alternate setting to receive services.
Patricia Williams is an Assistant Director with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction who oversees the Wisconsin IDEA complaint process and the departments’ monitoring system to ensure compliance with state and federal special education law. As part of her role, she also oversees the submission of the Annual Performance Report and issuance of annual district determinations. Ms. Williams holds a law degree, and prior to her position worked in private practice.
