It is important for parents and school staff to resolve issues right away. This workshop includes information about the free mediation services available from the WI Special Education Mediation System; federal and state laws related to mediation; when and how to request mediation; who are the mediators; participation in mediation; and more.


Nelsinia Ramos is the co-director of WI FACETS’ Parent Training and Information Center and the Multicultural Specialist for the Wisconsin Special Education Mediation System (WSEMS). She is the parent of a young adult with disabilities and brings extensive experience implementing parent support programs and statewide outreach activities.

Nissan Bar-Lev is the Director of Special Education for CESA 7 & is one of 3 Partners who administer the WI Special Education Mediation System. Nissan co-chairs the Special Projects Committee for WCASS. He serves on the Governor’s Autism Council, Children’s Long Term Support Council & chairs the State Superintendent's Blind & Visual Impairment Education Council. He serves on the SAA Assessment Team, the WI RtI/PBIS Advisory Council, & National IDEA Partnership “Creating Agreement” team. Nissan is a co-author of the booklet Special Education in Plain Language.
