Event Details

This workshop will address specific aspects of the special education process in regards to children and youth with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in foster care. The intention is to raise awareness about some of the rights and responsibilities for caregivers and schools, to improve the ability of caregivers to understand the process more thoroughly and know where to find additional information.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will understand special education referral and IEP team participation for students in foster care, access and disclosure rights to pupil records, and the responsibilities of school districts in the provision of services.
  • Participants will be familiar with additional resources and links related to special education referral and IEP team participation for students in foster care, access and disclosure rights to pupil records, and the responsibilities of school districts in the provision of services.
 Presenters: Julie Incitti, school social work consultant at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and Eva Shaw, Education Consultant on the Special Education Team at the WI Department of Public Instruction.
