Description:

Children become teenagers who become adults. Everyone wants to, and deserves to live the life they want to live! A Self-Determined Life. Family members (parents) want their children to succeed and be safe. Parents will always worry about their children, no matter how old they are. Hunter and Tim are working together to learn how to Tim (parent) can support Hunter in the way that respects Hunter and who he wants to be supported. Hunter is working to learn how to communicate his desires and his frustrations in a way that respects Tim.

Presenters:

Hunter Markle is an autistic young adult who also has some mental health challenges. He is currently working part time.

Tim Markle works at the Waisman Center at UW-Madison with the Children’s Resource Center-South, Wisconsin Youth Health Transition Initiative, and the LEND Training program.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will identify what a self-determined life can look like.
  • Participants will describe how support can be given and accepted without losing autonomy.
