Event Details

Learn about the similarities and differences between Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 plans. The training will cover what Section 504 is, what schools must do because of it, the criteria for students to qualify for a 504 accommodation plan, and how 504s are different from IEPs. We will also cover how Section 504 can help students with disabilities through high school in college and in the workplace. Information on 504 grievance procedures will also be provided.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn Parents’ and Students’ rights under section 504,
  • Learn about the evaluation and implementation of 504 plans.

Presenter: Bonnie Vander Meulen is WI FACETS’ Training Coordinator. Also, she is a licensed professional counselor with more than 40 years of counseling experience. She has worked extensively with students and families on all levels of the educational spectrum. She has previously served as the technical advisor for a Medicaid Infrastructure Grant through Pathways to Independence entitled Employment of Persons with Disabilities in Professional Positions. Previously, Bonnie completed her responsibilities as the primary facilitator for a Dept. of Education grant at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater’s Center for Students with Disabilities. The mother of a young adult with multiple disabilities, Bonnie advocates for children with special needs.
