Event Details

Special Education, through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) are designed to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability.  Meeting those needs through virtual services are becoming more common as the technology required to provide services become more widely available.  This presentation will help parents understand the potential benefits of virtual special education services, as well as practical considerations to ensure the services adequately address the child’s unique needs.

Learning objectives:

  • Participants will understand the basics and benefits of virtual special education services
  • Participants will learn technical, logistical, and privacy considerations for creating and implementing virtual special education services
  • Participants will learn practical strategies for supporting their child’s daily living, mobility, fine motor and speech language development at home

Presenters: Tim Peerenboom, Dawn Merth-Johnson, and Michelle Silverman

Dawn Merth-Johnson (Speech-Language and Assistive Technology) Michelle Silverman (Occupational and Physical Therapy) and Tim Peerenboom (School Psychology) are Educational Consultants at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction in the Division of Learning Support.
