Through this webinar, attendees will become familiar with the Transition Programming Beyond Age 18 Guidance, the components and foundation in building meaningful, individualized programming as well as state and federal requirements. The importance of collaboration between schools, outside agencies and families will be discussed. Attendees will leave with resources to take back to IEP teams to help guide in robust transition planning.

Presenter:

Shelley Burke-Otto is a Transition Specialist for the Transition Improvement Grant (TIG). She has 24 years of experience in the classroom as a High School Transition Teacher, with her focus the last few years on helping build beyond 18 programming. She was a CCoT facilitator, Indicator 14 surveyor and Youth Apprentice Coordinator while working in the district. She worked with all students with IEPs and youth in Alternative Education on creating individualized transition programming. She has a Masters in Education with a BS in Vocational Rehabilitation and Special Education. She also holds a license in Alternative Education and has supported many diverse students and families as they travel on their transition path.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will become familiar with the Transition Programming Beyond Age 18 Guidance.

Participants will leave with an understanding of all the components of Beyond 18 programming and its foundation and structure.

Participants will leave with resources to bring back to IEP teams for discussion, and a starting place to build individualized, meaningful transition planning.
